Wild vs. Feral
The Takhi are a wild species, which means that while they share a distant ancestor with our horses, they have never lived with or worked for people. They have not adapted over time to any human needs.
We call other horses in other places wild, but these are actually feral. all escaped horses that used to live with humans, or horses with ancestors that lived with humans. They are just like our domesticated horses, which have been bred to live with and be useful to humans, but have adapted to life in the wild by finding their own food and shelter.
